About Me
I have been building things for as long as I can remember. Regardless of the materials, wood, metal, brick, or concrete, building was in my blood. Making cabinets and furniture has always been a dream, but having a young family along with the expense of tools and equipment, it didn't seem like it would become a reality. Then one day my wife and I decided we were going to completely remodel our kitchen, I told her in order for me to do this I would need a table saw and she simply replied ok, well that opened the door to my woodworking dream and I haven't stopped since.
Craftsmanship
I build all my furniture and cabinets with superior joinery such as mortise and tenons along with hand cut dovetails. The majority of my furniture is held together with precision joinery that is glued together for superior strength and quality. There are some situations that mechanical hardware such as a screw to attach a tabletop or bolts for a bed frame are used for this type of connection. The materials are as important as the joinery so solid hardwood and cabinet grade plywood along with quality hardware are always used. The first step in every project starts with the design. Usually the client has an idea of what they want so I take the design and build to there specifications. Sometimes I work with the client to come up with a unique design of my own. After the design is finalized the building starts with wood selection. There is a great deal of thought that goes into selecting boards for a project such as color and grain. After the boards are selected they will be rough cut to size then milled in two stages to allow for wood movement to stabilize. Once this process is complete I will cut boards to final size and prepare all the joinery. At this time everything will be test fitted, hand planed and sanded. Now the boards can be joined together and "Glued-Up" to finally become a piece of furniture. The final process is the finish, and that is usually a clear natural finish for hardwood or a sprayed conversion varnish for painted projects. As you can see there are many steps to make a piece of furniture, and I enjoy every step.
